They reach the difficult part of the problem, and the thread is gone. They practise, but they are no longer thinking. They make a mistake, but rush past the moment where learning could happen.
The next generation of learning technology cannot only ask: did the student complete the task? It has to ask whether the student entered the learning. Whether they stayed with the difficulty. Whether they returned when they slipped. Whether they could find it again when the page was gone.
More content does not create more learning. Renewed attention does.
